Bold Daytime Makeup Tutorial
If you want to create a makeup look that is both subtle and sophisticated to be worn during the daytime, then this tutorial is for you! In a few simple steps, you can achieve this look. I will list all the products I used in the steps below. The focus is on a natural smoky eye paired with a bold lip. Have fun and remember: practice makes perfect!
Step 1: Prime
For this look, I used Clinique’s pep-start Hydroblur moisturizer. What it does is instantly blur imperfections, deliver 24/7 mattifying hydration and reduces surface shine on the face. It is a very lightweight product and the finish is silky and radiant. It creates a bare canvas for any other products you use to stick to.
Step 2: Colour Correcting
I took the L.A. Girl’s Pro Concealer in the shade Orange Corrector and placed a tiny amount on my dark under eye circles. This is a great product for anyone who has intensely dark under eye circles and a little goes a long way. I blended the product out with a foundation brush and set it with translucent powder. I then placed the Green Corrector on any red spots around the nose, cheeks and forehead and blended it, then set it with translucent powder. Setting it prevents the colours from mixing with the foundation when it is being applied creating a flawless base.
Step 3: Foundation
I like to use L’Oreal’s True Match Foundation in the shade W4.5 – Fresh Beige because it has medium coverage and is super blendable, diffusing any imperfections. I only used a little bit of foundation because I colour corrected in the above step. This prevents the makeup from looking cakey.
Step 4: Concealer & Cream Contour
I added Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer in the shade Medium under the eyes and on the eyelids (this will double as an eyeshadow base), on the bridge of the nose, around the lip corners, on the forehead and chin. I also added L.A. Girl’s contour colour in the shade Toast along the top of my forehead, by my cheekbones and jawline. Using a wet beauty blender, blend all the products into your foundation by gently pressing the face.
Step 5: Setting Powder
I set the entire face using L’Oreal True Match Powder in the shade W6 - Sun Beige. Using Ben Nye’s Banana Powder, I used my beauty blender and put loose powder under my eyes to bake. I then took Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer and lightly dusted it over the areas where I placed the cream contour.
Step 6: Eyebrows
Fill in the brows using ABH Brow Pomade in the shade Chocolate and lightly accentuate the brows.
Step 7: Eyeshadow
Using the shade Maple Syrup from Too Faced’s Gingerbread Palette, apply that all over the eyelids and blend the colour above the crease. Then apply Cup of Joe on the eyelids. I also applied both colours along my lower lashline. Then take the shade Ginger Cream and place it on the brow bone and in the inner corner to bring some highlight to the eye.
Step 8: Eyeliner & Mascara
Liquid eyeliners give a precise and clean finish so line your eyes using L’Oreal Infallible Blackbuster liquid eyeliner in Black. I lined my lower lashline with L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail eyeliner in the shade Black also. To get long, full lashes without using falsies, try Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I have very short lashes and this product lengthens them and makes them very full.
Step 9: Lips
For this look, I used Sasha's Intense Matte Lip Velvet in the shade Hello Boys! I applied some chapstick before the lipstick because while this formula lasts for hours on end, it can be very drying. The colour payoff though is incredible and I love the matte finish.
Step 10: Setting Spray
I finished this look using my Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater to set my makeup by misting it over my face and neck. This product soothes skin in dehydrating conditions so I would usually put it in my handbag to give my skin a quick boost anytime, anywhere.
